A new study has revealed the connection between use of smoking marijuana and cancer aggravation. This study has shown that using marijuana in a long-term period ameliorates the risk of developing testicular cancer. The researches of the said study on the connection between use of smoking marijuana and cancer has stated that men who used marijuana even once a week or those who began using the drug while in their adolescence resulted to doubling the risk for aggressive testicular cancer. The nonseminoma type of testicular cancer has been determined to elucidate around forty percent of these cancer cases.

According to an epidemiologist and member of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and co-author of the study, Janet Daling, the increase of the incidence of testicular cancer has been known in the United States and Europe for the last 40 years. At the same time, the incidence of marijuana use has risen. Thus, according to Daling, it seemed apt to assume the association between smoking marijuana and cancer. Furthermore, Daling claimed that as they analyzed the data on the study, they found out that no evident relationship exists between smoking marijuana and cancer, specifically testicular cancer.

According to the United States National Cancer Institute, testicular cancer accounts for just a percent of cancers particularly among men since this type is very rare. Nonetheless, testicular cancer has been the most common type of cancer among American men between the ages 15 and 34. The rate of testicular cancer has increased from 3% to 6% in the past half century in different countries including New Zealand, North America, Australia, and Europe. This increase has prompted some researchers in suggesting that the escalation might be associated with marijuana as its exposure and use among adolescents has increased.

As such, the researches has emphasized that the association between smoking marijuana and cancer could be evident in the testes as well as the spleen, brain, uterus, and heart. The testes organ consists of specific receptors for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the primary psychoactive ingredient in marijuana.

In the past, some human and animal researches have demonstrated that the use of marijuana could lead to impotency, reduced hormonal production, and poorer semen quality in men. Consequently, Daling and the rest of her team has explored on the association between smoking marijuana and cancer through analyzing information collected by the Adult Testicular Cancer Lifestyle and Blood Specimen Study from 369 testicular cancer patients.

Based on the results from the participants between the ages of 18 and 44 diagnosed with testicular cancer and users of marijuana between 1999 and 2006, there is an association between smoking marijuana and cancer as a 70% increased risk was found in them. The nonseminoma risk was high particularly among participants who used marijuana at least once a week. It was also high among participants who started using the drug prior to reaching the age of 18. Daling has emphasized, however, that the results of their study are only preliminary although it should be given appropriate attention.

The association between smoking marijuana and cancer was based on the study that the risk increased twice to those who used marijuana at least weekly as compared to those who never smoked. The increase in risk was also evident in those who had long-term exposure to marijuana beginning in their adolescence.
In a study on the link between smoking marijuana and cancer, researchers at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center claim that either frequent or long-term use of marijuana may substantially increase the risk of developing testicular cancer. The findings on the said study on smoking marijuana and cancer were published on February 9, 2009 in the journal “Cancer.” The findings of the study on the association of smoking marijuana and cancer proved that the link of marijuana use is limited to nonseminoma, which is a fast-growing testicular malignancy, found between the age of 20 and 35. The link also showed grounds for about 40% of all cases of testicular cancer.
An epidemiologist and member of the Public Health Sciences Division at the Hutchinson Center, Stephen Schwartz said that their study on the link between smoking marijuana and cancer is not the first to propose that the lifestyle or environment of an individual is a factor for testicular cancer; however, he claimed that their study is the first that has linked marijuana use as a risk factor.
Another epidemiologist and member of the Center, Janet Daling said that during puberty, the risk of testicular cancer is greater just like the changing hormonal environment of adolescence and adulthood can precipitate fetal germ cells to become cancerous. She further explained that the findings of their study on smoking marijuana and cancer has been consistent that the increased risk of nonseminoma type testicular cancer was associated with using or smoking marijuana before the age of 18.
Eight years ago, Daling first conceptualized on exploring the possible link between smoking marijuana and cancer as she listened to a physician during at talk at the University of Washington. The physician showed findings that the brain and the testes consist of receptors for THC or tetrahydrocannabinol, which is the primary psychoactive component of marijuana.
More so, Daling has also learned from various sources that THC receptors were also found in the immune system, uterus, heart, and spleen cells. Daling said that using marijuana may distort the anti-tumor effect that could be another explanation for the possible association between smoking marijuana and cancer. During the study on the association between smoking marijuana and cancer, participants were asked about their lifestyle and habits apart from disclosing the span of their marijuana use. Thus, the findings proved that using marijuana was a substantial risk factor for testicular cancer in spite family history and history of undescended testes.
Although the researchers stressed that the findings on their study on the link between smoking marijuana and cancer are not conclusive, it still opens the door to more research questions to come up with a decisive result on smoking marijuana and cancer link.

Frequent use of marijuana can injure the lungs and heart if a person is smoking marijuana. Chronic bronchitis and inflamed sinuses are common respiratory dilemma of marijuana users. Research shown severe health conditions of long- term effects of marijuana but are not yet known. For instance, a crowd of scientists in California observed the health condition of 450 chain smokers of marijuana except tobacco. They discovered that marijuana smokers are often sick and visit doctors more often because of respiratory problems than people who did not smoke both substances. Research show that the frequent use of marijuana or THC may trigger cancer and problems in the respiratory, nervous, and immune systems.
It is not easy to determine whether marijuana is the source of cancer, since many people who smoke marijuana also smoke cigarettes and take other drugs. For a time in higher awareness, marijuana smoke has a few of the same components causing cancer. Tobacco and marijuana may damage the tissues beneath the respiratory system. Smoking marijuana can add up to the progress of brain thyroid cancer.
Our body is protected by the immune system from harmful bacteria that may cause a disease. There is no certainty if marijuana harms the immune system of a person, though HIV victims should avoid the use of marijuana.
Marijuana smokers increase breathing problems the same as the cigarette smokers have. They cough often and suffer chest colds. They are also in great danger of having lung infections like pneumonia. If a person continues to smoke marijuana, it may lead to unusual function of the lungs. Scientists have discovered damaged tissues through smoking marijuana.
Smoking marijuana deteriorates the brain and leads to damaged short- term memory, awareness, interests, knowledge and motor skill. THC destroys the nerve cells in the brain where memories are stored. This makes it difficult for the user to put in mind what had just happened.
Smoking marijuana does many negative changes in the brain that are also a probable cause of cocaine, alcohol and heroin. These changes may put a person in real danger if they have become an addict to drugs. It is also possible that marijuana users will be eager to try more drugs. Marijuana makes it hard for a person take distances and respond into signal lights and does not mind the sounds along the streets.
Marijuana has harmful effects on driving. Driving while under the influence of drugs may result to accidents. The reason is marijuana affects abilities needed for driving safely. The effect will last up to 24 hours after smoking marijuana. If marijuana and alcohol are combined, there is a high percentage of committing an accident. A record shows that marijuana does dangerous things while driving. It also proves that while in the influence of marijuana, a person cannot manage himself.
A great risk and sense of responsibility is needed when smoking marijuana. You won’t even notice yourself getting into trouble if you are under the influence of drugs.

Anybody who has seen marijuana scary films like Reefer Madness may, as expected, pay no attention to something the organization implies to criticize the “sinful ganja”. Though actually, all kinds of burning and inhaling appear to suffer health problems- whether smoking cigarette, a burning automobile, putting into flame fire woods or lighting incense, so it is not a huge surprise that smoking marijuana may not be excluded. I know some people get mad if I say something bad about marijuana. I am also a child of the 60th century. I clearly understand. But it looks like it is bound to happen that anything that implies flaming and inhaling is going to tackle health topics. It makes no sense for marijuana to be a single exemption- no matter how we enjoy smoking.
A new research came out in the newspaper about Cancer informing that smoking marijuana provokes to a 70% boosted risk of progressing an aggressive kind of cancer of the testicles. With 8000 recent situation diagnosed every year in the US, testicular cancer is the most ordinary form of the illness in males ranging the age of 15-34.
The research study a data of 369 men ranging the age of 18-44 who had been diagnosed with testicular cancer and have been matched up their marijuana intake with that of 979 men without cancer. A research of family background and way of life aspects comprising tobacco and alcohol intake, the researchers have found out that those area under discussion who said that smoking marijuana at least once a week, or had been smoking at a young age, is in too much risk. The danger rose up to 70% if the person currently smokes. In addition, the most severe form of disease related with pot smoking is a type of testicular cancer, nonseminoma. There was no connection found between smoking marijuana and a more regular kind of testicular cancer- seminoma.
Even as researcher approved that the information may be distorted while it relies self- accounting and usual marijuana addict barely likes to promote his practice to authority forms, they also note that the information made obvious the organization between smoking and just single type of testicular cancer. The truth about the advanced risk concerned to only a single form of the disease rather than the regular disease, it was according to the research of director Dr. Janet R. Daling of the Fred Hutchson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washington.

Actually, other study shows that marijuana affects male reproductive function and can lessen sperm count and condition. Next to the brain, the male testes, uterus, heart and spleen, bring particular receptors for THC, which is the primary component in marijuana. The organ cells could be weak to transformation.
As the product is initially and have to be spared in follow-up researches, they do increase apprehension. Smoking may aggravate the risk of cancer based on other studies. Person smoking marijuana once a day for 10 years had a 5.7 times higher risk of cancer than people who don’t smoke even after alternating for tobacco use, said the chief researcher Richard Beasley.
To sum it all up, it would be better to be careful because at least some of the studies have explained negative health effects from smoking marijuana while some research shows the positive effects of marijuana, taken through injection or intake, not by smoking marijuana.

The burning of this material into smoke and as we inhale this in our lungs is innately harmful. Donald Tashkin of UCLA and his associates’ study has been made on the effects of marijuana smoke our lungs.
The study dilemma was explained in 1987. This research recognized marijuana and tobacco smokers had the same indication of respiratory problems. Frequent shortness of breath was reported by tobacco smokers were told by tobacco smokers than what the marijuana smokers experience.
The writer’s theory is that both marijuana smoke and tobacco smoke is dangerous to the lungs and such exposure of the lungs to both tobacco and marijuana is even bad. On the other hand, if the people persevere on smoking tobacco as a situation, the research conducted by Tashkin, reveals that relating marijuana smoke in reference to smoking tobacco is intricate.
Too much marijuana smoke and tobacco smoking may result to chronic bronchitis and a raising incidence of acute bronchitis incidents.
If the lungs are exposed to harmful substances, possibly it will correspond to the health problems because of marijuana use. Another probable danger is if or if not marijuana smoke affect the lung’s capacity to protect itself from harmful bacteria and cleanse itself of the dangerous substances produced by the smoke.
Marijuana smoke aggravates macrophages but not as tobacco smoke. Plenty of substances promote macrophage construction. Macrophage cell division is a usual physiological reaction to foreign matters.
Marijuana smoke is much destructive than tobacco smoke. In this case, marijuana smoke lessens against several of the damage of tobacco smoke.
It proves that the substances in marijuana smoke may be less motivating than the substances in tobacco smoke. Our records imply that marijuana smoke may reduce tobacco proliferation.
Tashkin’s associate has examined the effect of smoking marijuana on lung macrophage oxidant discharge, a process that contributes to emphysema. Significant differences were found between marijuana smoke and tobacco smoke in this review.
The truth that several research specify that marijuana smoke is not as dangerous as tobacco smoke does not alter the legality of Tashkin’s unique statement that marijuana smoke is dangerous to the lungs and that it also harm others who smoke tobacco.
Tashkin openly takes note that supporters of the justification of marijuana are incorrect when they challenge that no proof exists connecting smoking marijuana to severe health conditions. Several illnesses take a long period of time to progress, though some respiratory problems don’t.
The study conducted by Tashkin and his associates on the marijuana smoke’s effect on the lung adds a share to accepting and distinguish the pharmacology of smoke marijuana. Marijuana smoke is the means of transport that brings up active components from marijuana into the body. The main path of how it gets in, in our body is through smoking. It is essential in studying and understanding the pharmacology of marijuana to know the effects of the smoke and the active components called cannabinoids. In addition, knowing the combination of the components from smoke is vital to be informed by the effects of the basic elements, the cannabinoids on our body.

New study tells that people who smoke marijuana do not seem to be at danger for expanding lung cancer. There is no such organization that was seen for regular use of cannabis despite the obvious raise of cancer among cigarette smokers according to study. Even long- standing marijuana users who had smoked more than 22,000 joints more than a lifetime appears to have no high risks than irregular marijuana users or nonusers.
The researcher looked forward notice an increase in cancer among people who uses marijuana especially at their young age.
A research conducted by Donald Tashkin MD of UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine implies that there are plenty or more carcinogens and co-carcinogens in marijuana smoke those cigarettes.
Tashkin delivered the research today at the American Thoracic Society’s 102nd International Conference. It took place in San Diego Boomers Reaching Cancer age. The research people was incomplete to people younger than 60 since people older than that would most likely to not have tried marijuana in their teenage life and early adulthood.
According to Tashkin, people who may have tried marijuana when they’re young are reaching the age when cancers are being diagnosed. A sum of 611 patients with lung cancer who lives in Los Angeles Country and 601 patients with other cases of cancers were evaluated with 1, 040 people without cancer correspond for sex, age and the place where they live.
All the accomplice were questioned about long term use of marijuana, tobacco and alcohol plus other medicines, their eating habits, profession, family background of lung cancer and social economic standing.
The most severe marijuana users in the research have tried more than 22,000 joints, whereas average heavy smokers who have been inhaling marijuana smoke had flanked by 11,000 and 22,000 joints. Whereas two packs a day of cigarette that smokers take were discovered to have a 20-fold raise in lung cancer danger, no height in danger was seen for even the most severe case of marijuana smoke.
If a person smokes too much tobaccoit will have a great danger of increasing lung cancer and other cancers. However, people who smoke more marijuana were not at high risk in contrast with the people who smoked less and people who didn’t smoke at all.
Research imply that marijuana smoke have 50% higher awareness of chemicals connected to lung cancer than cigarette smoke. Marijuana smoke is inhaled deeper in purpose than cigarette and hold the inhaled smoke in their lungs longer.
Therefore, why isn’t marijuana as risky as smoking cigarettes when it comes to cancer risk? There is no clear answer, though experts have told that it may have something to do with tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC found in marijuana smoke.
Tashkin informs that cellular research and still some reports in animal representation propose that THC has antitumor assets also by promoting the loss of hereditarily impaired cells that may trigger cancer or by limiting the progress of the blood distribution that supports tumors. The University of Colorado molecular biologist Robert Melamede, PhD, assumed that the THC in marijuana seems to decrease the tumor- producing assets of marijuana smoke.
Melamede tells that nicotine in tobacco has been exposed to reduce the damage of cancer cells. THC can’t do anything about it and might even do the reverse. Tashkin speak of the very fragile group was most likely because of chance, whereas a proposal in the recently stated research that smoking marijuana is unconvincingly protective against lung cancer.
The danger in smoking cigarette is cancer and it is not an impact whether or not they smoke marijuana. We definitely would not advise that people smoke marijuana to look after them against cancer and we witness no contact between marijuana and tobacco, Tashkin said.

Senator Ted Kennedy had undergone a surgery for malignant glioma, a fatal type of brain tumor in 2008. Kennedy had managed to put a brave face after his surgery although he would still undergo at least 4 to 6 weeks of radiation therapy and repeated chemotherapy every eight weeks depending on his response.

On the other hand, supporters of medical marijuana claimed that there might be other alternatives for treatment of gliomas and some other cancers and that the government might know something about those alternatives. In a review of preclinical and clinical studies, which evaluated the potential link between smoking marijuana and cancer treatment had findings that the use of cannabinoids may be useful as anti-cancer agents. At least 30 separate trials as well as literature reviews had been focused on the potential therapeutic effect of smoking marijuana and cancer treatment.

Many people may not be familiar with such scientific researches; however, the government may be behind the “secrecy.” In 1974, an experiment that focused on the possible anti-cancer effects of smoking marijuana and cancer treatment was done at the Medical College of Virginia at the knowledge and directive of federal officials.

A report on the findings of the experiment was featured at the Washington Post newspaper, which stated that the primary psychoactive component of marijuana, THC, had slowed the growth of cancers in lungs and breasts. More so, the experiment had also indicated a slowed growth in a virus-induced leukemia in laboratory mice, prolonging their lives by 36%. The preliminary findings on the link between smoking marijuana and cancer were published in 1975 in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.

Although it had presented favorable possibilities, the United States government had continued to refuse the authorization of a follow-up investigation. It was only in the 1990s that the United States National Toxicology Program conducted a preclinical trial on the same study. The study was done secretly and cost $2 million. It had concluded that the laboratory rats and mice used, which were applied with high doses of THC over long periods, yielded greater protection against tumors compared to untreated controls.

On the other hand, in spite of the favorable findings on the link between marijuana and cancer treatment, the government had kept the results from the public until a draft copy was leaked to the AIDS Treatment News. The medical journal had then forwarded the findings to the national media. The United States government is yet to authorize an additional study since the National Toxicology trial was completed. The additional study should be able to examine the potential capability of marijuana to cure cancer through its potential anti-cancer properties. It is necessary to ask permission from the federal government before any clinical research can be done on smoking marijuana and cancer treatment since the drug is considered a schedule I controlled substance; thus, it has an illegal status.

As the funded study by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) on cannabis and cancer had revealed no link between smoking marijuana and cancer aggravation, more substantial questions came to light. Based on the findings of NIDA, marijuana smoke has the possibility of protecting the user against its own inherent carcinogenic properties although most people know that marijuana smoke consists of carcinogenic compounds.

In a more recent report published online in Forbes.com, smoking cannabis and cancer are again being associated; however, the report suggested that marijuana might be a cure for cancer. The researchers of Harvard University have discovered through laboratory and mouse studies that delta -tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) separates the growth of tumor into half in cancer, specifically in the lungs.

At the same time, THC obstructs the ability of cancer to spread. According to a pulmonary specialist, Dr. Len Horovitz of Lenox Hill Hospital in New York, THC appears to have an effect that suppresses certain lines of cancer cells. The researchers have also asserted that THC represses lung cancer through suppressing the epidermal growth factor, which is a molecule enhancing the growth and spread of aggressive small cell lung cancers. This is truly a development in the association between smoking cannabis and cancer.

Andrea Barthwell, who once claimed that marijuana caused lung cancer, had an experience at an ONDCP press conference of being asked persistently to cite an evidence for her claim. She was not able to cite a reference and so most people found her claim funny. However, an inverse association between smoking cannabis and cancer seemed to be funnier for most people. This is because people have the notion that if marijuana users do not get cancer, then so are tobacco users.

Consequently, many people believe that marijuana smokers fail to acquire lung cancer because of their reduced consumption as compared to that of cigarette smokers. However, people are overwhelmed with reported studies that THC suppresses cancerous cells and that an inverse association between smoking cannabis and cancer is indeed possible.

Among other things, such development leads people to assume that when THC is applied to the lungs through methods other than smoking, it might be even better. Each year, it has been evident that the debate over use of medical marijuana and cancer development becomes less.

Researchers at Barts and the London, Queen Mary’s School of Medicine and Dentistry had investigated the relationship between smoked cannabis and cancer therapy. The team leader of the researchers, Dr. Wai Man Liu had stated that cannabis has the potential of destroying leukemia cells. The report was published in the Letters in Drug Design & Discovery.

The researchers had followed up on the results of their study in 2005 on smoked cannabis and cancer therapy, which presented that tetrahydrocannabinol or THC, the main ingredient in cannabis, has the potential of destroying some forms of cancer. Since the end of their study in 2005, Dr. Liu had moved to the Institute of Cancer in Sutton to continue his work on investigating new anti-cancer agents with potential therapeutic effect.

In previous studies, researchers have acknowledged that cannabis-based medicines produce advantages in treatment of patients with cancer. These medicines serve as appetite stimulant, nausea reduction, and painkiller; recently however, evidence has been establishing cannabis potentially as an anti-tumor agent.

On the other hand, this evidence has complicated the capacity of cannabis to be an anti-tumor agent because of its consequent legal status as well as its widely reported psychoactive side effects.

Nevertheless, reports and studies have not yet established exactly how smoked cannabis and cancer treatment are related although the main psychoactive ingredient of cannabis and related compounds have been demonstrated to destroy cancer cells through interference in significant growth-processing pathways. Dr. Liu and his group have begun to discover further existing crucial processes in which THC can be able to destroy cancer cells and possible stimulate survival.

The researchers were able to arrive at such discovery through using highly sophisticated micro-array technology that allowed them to detect changes in over 25,000 genes in cells treated simultaneously with THC. Dr. Liu, in addition to this report, had also found that the mechanism of cannabis may be self-determining from the presence of receptors including proteins located on the cells’ surface through which the binding of other signaling molecules occur.

Such binding of molecules to receptors draws out a response in the cell whether it grows or dies. The result that demonstrates cannabis action may not necessitate the presence of receptors initiates the possibility that smoked cannabis and cancer treatment is positively linked. The finding opens the door that the drug may be used more extensively as dependence of cancer cells on the cannabis receptor is taken out.

In addition, Dr. Liu had stated that it is substantial to emphasize that cannabis-like substances are far removed from the cannabis that is smoked. Novel compounds are particularly designed in order to be free of the psychoactive features simultaneous with maintaining anti-cancer action. At the end of the day, the key to effectively link smoked cannabis and cancer is to understand the basic mechanisms of the compounds of cannabis, which will provide insights into developing new cannabis-based medicines for cancer treatment.
